Full Transparency

I am writing this post to document my own experience of using Deel as a contractor to express how the platform could work for you, the company and all your remote employees. If you feel that this is even remotely helpful, then consider rewarding me with a little change by using my referral link to signup for Deel. The demo is really worth getting. That’s all, Let’s Deel!

The Context

Alright, let’s cut to the chase. You know the payroll scene is a mess if you’re in the remote work game. With the myriad of tax laws, compliance requirements, and payment methods, it’s easy to get lost in the complexity. As someone who has been a contractor working at a remote company for the last three years, I’ve had my fair share of payroll woes. That was until we found Deel. And let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.

Context: My current company hires from different countries, with folks getting paid in different currencies, varying contracts, and dizzying expenses and invoices. Don’t even get me started on tax laws. Before Deel or even the pandemic, hiring folks remotely, even for Mixster, was incredibly painful.

The Problem Then…

You’ve got contractors all over the globe, or you want to hire folks from all over the world. You need to figure out a payroll solution that can solve and accommodate for local compliance, taxes, benefits, currency conversation and hundreds of other admin tasks at stake when you even start to onboard a new employee from a different region.

It’s a mess. Enter Deel.

What’s Deel? Why Now?

This isn’t your grandpa’s payroll system. It’s built for the now, remote, and global. You can onboard, pay, and manage contractors in hundreds of currencies and countries. And the best part? It’s all compliant with local laws. No more late-night Googling tax codes. No more rethinking contractor agreements. From the website you read,

With Deel payroll in 100+ countries with one platform to streamline international operations and eliminate the ongoing admin work.

That’s some statement.

But then looking at the sheer number of companies already on Deel is nothing short of amazing. Deel is already being used as a standard tool in the industry, with thousands of companies running their payroll with Deel. So safe to say Deel is no slouch.

My Deel Experience: The Nitty-Gritty

Onboarding: A Walk in the Park

First impressions? The UI is clean. No clutter, no nonsense. The first thing that struck me about Deel was its intuitive, user-friendly interface. Onboarding was a breeze. All the required documents and tax forms were integrated into the platform, streamlining the entire process.

I remember back in 2020, it took me less than an hour to create my profile, add my account and get onboarded to the platform without any help or issues. Deel would have come a long way since then, and if I were onboarded now, then it would be great.

I have had issues in the past, which were resolved by Deel support immediately regarding invoices or payment compliance. Coming to compliance.

Compliance & Payments Flexiblity: The Hard Problem

It’s hours of my life that I get back, folks. A lot of the work that used to go into managing documents, creating invoices, sending them to clients and then the reminders for those invoices have been automated. Having further options available to employees to add expenses, amend invoices, and upload their own ones is an incredible quality-of-life feature. For you as a company, this reduces tons of admin work that used to pile up when payday eventually comes each month. The Foreign Inward Remittance Certificate is useful for the government for income tax law purposes.

The methods available in India. Yours might differ.

With the number of options Deel provides to get paid is quite helpful in figuring out this mandate. I get my FIRC certificate from my transaction method when used with WISE. But I also can get paid in Bitcoin. Prefer wire transfers? No problem. Want to use popular alternatives like Payoneer, Revolut or Paypal. That can be done as well. The platform lets you choose how you get paid, in what currency, and when. It’s like having your cake and eating it too.

This is critical for me to manage my income flow and have a certain amount of control that I haven’t seen from any other organization systems or traditional payroll platforms.

Deel More?

With all this, Deel also gives each contractor on the platform a way to redeem remote-specific rewards. Things like WeWork passes, headspace subscriptions, and relocation services.

This is especially nice as Deel also provides and works with international insurance providers for companies to provide health insurance

The Extra Mile: Deel’s Secret Sauce

Deel plays nice with other tools. Its robust API lets you plug it into your workflow like a Lego piece. No more software silos. Deel takes data security seriously and uses best-in-class security protocols, such as SSL encryption, two-factor authentication, ISO 27001 certification, and SOC 2 and GDPR compliance. From their website, they also employ a dedicated security team that monitors threats 24/7.

This peace of mind is invaluable, especially when dealing with sensitive financial information.

Wrapping It Up

Three years in, and I don’t want to switch to a remote company that doesn’t use Deel. That’s an incredible edge for companies to have. Deel has become my go-to for all things payroll and definitely will be the solution that I will be using if I would like to hire people from around the world for Mixster.

To do your research, I would recommend getting the free demo that Deel is offering right now to folks and reading through their knowledge hub that they have on their website. With this blog, I wanted to give an insight into how Global Payroll works for a single person in your team so once you set this up, it really starts to pay dividends as you scale your organization.

That’s about it for now. I hope it helps. Live in the mix.
